Administering Your SQL Database
Through Microsoft Access 2000
Another way to connect to and
administer your SQL Server database
is through Microsoft Acesss 2000. Additional information on using Access
to manage your Access database can be found at the Microsoft
site, though
we have included some step by step, screen shot instructions below for
your convenience.
Begin by launching Access 2000 and
clicking on File à New to generate
the following window. Click on Project (New Database) to create a new
MS Access 2000 database project.

The following window will be
generated to prompt you to save the project in a directory on your local drive. Choose a
directory and file name and click Create.

If the
Microsoft SQL Server Database Wizard pops up (shown below), cancel
the window it will attempt to create a new database on the SQL server. This
is not necessary since we have already done this for you. Cancel the screen below.

Once the wizard is cancelled, an empty Access project
will be shown below.
Click on File à Connection

In the window that
is generated below, type the SQL Server name, your user account
username and password (uncheck the Blank password check box), and the name of
your database. Click on the Test Connection button to verify your
connectivity.
Once the connectivity is verified, click OK on the window below.

You are now connected to your MS
SQL Server database on sql1.burlee.com.
From the interface below you can manage your SQL Server database by creating
tables, indexes, modifying content and the data stored within your database tables.
